How to get back non refundable airfares?

BMI travel is telling that they won’t return single penny for my cancelled flight ticket. How to claim or discuss with airlines to get back non refundable air fares?

I purchased non-refundable ticket from www.flybmi.com, which is airline itself. Now, due to some reason, I won’t be able to fly. So, I called BMI and they told that if I would cancel the flight, they won’t refund anything except ‘taxes- 50$’ charge. Even I asked that US airlines adjusts nonrefundable fares for next flights. But, BMI told that there is no other option for me. I can not cancel and use that credit for future flight. In short, they are telling that I won’t get anything back from base fare. Is there any work around this? Thank you.

      An airline ticket is big expensive risk so many people dont buy it extended.
